WHEN IT RAINS IT POURS

Busmarine

It has been pouring back home in Chennai for the past few days. Going by what folks back home are saying, it seems that the rain has been much more severe this year. Roads all over the city are waterlogged. The arterial 100ft road is now a river. The various vehicular subways, notably the ones in T Nagar are devoid of any drainage system to carry stormwater for the past 2038 years. Velachery, the most hyped real estate destination, is in shambles and this is also an annual occurrence.

My other source of information was the Tamil news channel Sun News. Their focus was more on the floods in Tamilnadu than on the Mumbai terror attacks. It was a sad sight to see people coming out of their houses in boats. Today a friend sent me an attachment named Yamaha R15 liquid cooled engine. I opened it expecting something on the lines of Hayabusa or a Harley-Davidson but all I saw was a bike half of which was submerged in stagnant rainwater much like the bus in the picture above.

Another source of information was Jaya TV news which grabbed this opportunity to indulge in severe blame game on the government. A news report said that the city mayor visited flooded suburban areas and when the residents asked him to take action, he reportedly told them to dig ditches outside their houses to allow the rain water to go into the ground. The residents were not amused. It only reminded me of a scene in the movie “Dasavatharam” where the old lady Kamalhassan wants to relieve herself urgently and asks the RAW-officer Kamalhassan to stop the vehicle when the latter suggests to the former, a temporary solution, which is to spit for the time being and to control herself till they reached a town.
